Star Wars Ep. III

Saw it the other weekend at Tokyo Forum. This was the big cahrity event. As is usual I had an invite to go to this thing. I won't go into the movie and reveal any surprises (but we all know what happens anyway). The movie theater/auditorium was great. They mentioned it was the biggest digital screening ever. I was front row second floor, probably the best seating possible (but then again I would not settle for less). It was an awesome event and Rick McCullum menionted that there would be 100 hrs of Star Wars TV programming in about a year. There were Stormtroopers, a Darth Vader and Maul, Jabba, Chewie and 3PO. There was a Leia in gold bikini which was cool but not attractive enough. All in all a festival like atmosphere. Too bad it will be the last Star Wars I wll see. Brought a tear to my eye.

As is usual I was asked for an interview, but I had to decline, I have to keep my public anonymity and my mysterious ways....

Idiots in the media

Once again how stupid are Japanese news programs? I saw Horie on WBS last night. They had him explaining basic business finance. You ahve a guy like that on your program and you can't ask probing questions, you have him run through some basic crap that you should have researched. What an idiot these reporters are....

Also waht is up with the gaijin commentators? Dave Spector doesn't haev a legitimate degree in what he is talking about. He's there ro rpovide the foreigner's perspective, even thoguh he is more Japanese than most Japanese. What a crock. If he had a senssible bone in his body, he would quit now before someone figures him out. At least have someone with a proper education who knows the facts provide insight into your programs, not the I speak Japanese and I am White dude.

Finally get those useless "talents" off the programs where they make comments about public issues. They have no clue, they are all idiots. I do not want to ehar what they think of Iraq or any issue they know nothing about. You have money, get an education!!!!!!!!!!!! I find myself turning to CNN so often, that I might as well stop watching Japanese TV altogether. The only thing on that is worthwhile is True Scary Stories.... and Doraemon, becasue he is cool.

Oh Mikey!

Whoever hasn't seen this series on DVD is missing ou t on some seriously wacky stuff. I highly recommend it. For those of you faithful readers who don't know of Oh, Mikey, it is about the Fuccon family. The Fuccons are a family of ex-pats living in Japan. Mikey is the only son. There really is no continuity save for the characteres appearing in the skits and there really is no storyline. There are no actors. There really isn't any movement.

The skits are very surreal or very weird based on your point of view. Regardless, it is funny, but not in a gut clenching way but in a more, WTF kind of way. You must see it to appreciate the new level of humor coming out of Japan. It is a far cry from the beat your underlings with a bat and get laughs schol of Yoshimoto Kogyo humor. When is the rest of Japanese TV going to strive for more intellectual writing? THey do so well with video games and stuff, one would think that this talent could be applied to TV as well.

Rent it steal it borrow it, but watch this highly underrated show.

Mikey is a stud. Long live Mikey!

I am also currently watching the Chapelle show and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Both are excellent shows as well.
