Peninsula

I almost wrote Penis-ula, yikes.

Anyway, went on Friday for a pre-open festivity. I have only stayed at the Peninsula in HK and NYC, so I can't compare to many of its sister hotels, but the Peninsula in Marunouchi is not bad at all....
Its a small hotel, but reasonably located and as expected from a Peninsula, decorated well. However, I haven't really checked it out carefully, so I cannot say if it is a place I will frequent regularly yet. For example, the Ritz_-Carlton I won't go to unless it is business now, as I don't like it so far. I did like the Mandarin though and I am a semi-regular at the bar there.

Feria

Another party at Feria tonight. I erally don;t like the place. For those of you who don't know it is in the Grace Bldg. across the street from where Velfarre used to be in Roppongi. There are too many people there with attitudes. The drinks are not so good, and the staff is not friendly. SO why go? I guess a bunch of friends are going to be there tonight so might go around 10:30....

See you there if you decide to go...

Cohiba Atmosphere

The bar Rhapsody remodelled and changed its name to Cohiba Atmosphere. There is no restauarant ont he second floor anymore and the first floor has a bit of a tropical feel to it now. The loss fo the restaurant is probably a good thing.

The staff hasn't changed, which is key. They always treat me well there.

It has a more neighborhood bar feel to it now, and is frequented quite often by regulars. I don't tend to mingle with the regulars, but still feel at home.

Bar Sophia

I went to Bar Sophia in Nishi Azabu for a friend's going away party.

I don't see the why people are fascinated with this bar. It does not seem special in any way. The links to Sophia Loren are superficial as well. The decor was not impressive in any way. Nothing really stood out. If it weren't for the party, I would not have gone. There are too many bars such as this where there is no scene, nothing to make it special in any way and no reason to keep going back.

I don't understand why it gets attention from magazines as BRIO or LEON. Having said that thouhg both have questionable tastes.

The drinks were passable. The service was adequate. The vodka they had was horrid! It ws some Nazi vodka that no one ever heard of... The food was ????

All in all, no real complaints, but no reason to go back...
